Detroit Free press reports that efforts launched this week came from the City of Novi, Wayne County Register Deeds, Fishbone’s restaurants, Church of God in Christ (COGIC), among many others. The United Methodist Church has been distributing water and and water filters in Flint since November. And ahead of Snyder’s address, the Michigan Republican Party held a water bottle collection on the steps of the Capitol.
In addition to churches, Jewish and Muslim organizations in Michigan are mobilizing as well. Islamic groups such as Who is Hussain and Life for Relief and Development in Southfield have already distributed thousands of bottles of water, with Islamic Relief USA and Michigan Muslim Community Council planning to deliver more this week. And the Flint Jewish Federation is working with the Red Cross to help get clean water to homes.
