BURBANK, CA (May 19, 2006) – The City of Detroit, in partnership with Islamic Relief, an international relief and development organization, will be taking part in the annual “Motor City Makeover 2006” this Saturday, May 20.
An annual program sponsored by the City of Detroit, “Motor City Makeover” aims to help communities clean up their neighborhoods. Volunteers will be equipped with garbage bags, gloves, and dumpsters to assist them in cleaning the neighborhood streets.
In addition to Islamic Relief and the City of Detroit, others taking part in this community event include the City of Hamtramck, the Neighborhood City Hall-East District, and Muath Bin Jabal Mosque.
In addition to responding to emergencies such as the South Asia Earthquake and Hurricane Katrina, Islamic Relief takes parts in many domestic projects that help the needy throughout the United States. In January, Islamic Relief distributed thousands of pounds of meat to the Gleaners Community Food Bank of Southeastern Michigan and inner-city Islamic centers in Detroit.
