Focus on Albania

Albania suffers from high unemployment and extreme poverty. Nearly half of the country’s employment comes from the agricultural industry, but only a small population owns land and even fewer own modern farming equipment. In turn, people flee to nearby cities for better opportunities but are often met with poor working conditions and little compensation. 

Islamic Relief’s Dedication to Albania

​​Islamic Relief’s first humanitarian response in Albania was in response to the Yugoslav wars in 1991, where we provided vital emergency aid to people in need including food and essential non-food items such as clothing. Since then, our focus has been on long-term development assistance to help pull vulnerable communities out of the cycle of poverty. 

A few of our interventions include:

• Food aid
• Access to clean water and healthcare 
• Sustainable livelihood support through the provision of livestock for women
• Emergency aid for flood-affected families including food aid and non-food items such as stove heaters, furniture, and mattresses 
• Winter aid
