I arrived at the buzzing beehive of Islamic Relief USA at the same time as Anwar Khan, the director. Still tired from a late night to early morning vigil at the mosque for Ramadan, he nevertheless spent time sharing his vision of Islamic relief with me.
He turned to his staff, “Take notes on this. I rarely get to talk at this level. What we are doing looks like distributing food, or money or medicine but, really we are spreading the love of Allah.” Indeed as I moved through the building meeting May, the secretary, Carl the tech guy, Rizwan the public relations materials guy, the lawyer smiling in his slightly bleak office (I forgot his name but for sure not his smile.) I was overwhelmed with the atmosphere of kindness and faithful commitment.
