B.C. Dodge & R. Mordant Mahon talk to Tazzy Phe in this episode of “What a Relief!” — IRUSA’s official podcast.
This week, B.C. & Mordant welcome none other than YouTube comedy sensation, Tazzy Phe.
If you have never heard of her, now is the time to get hip and join her over 40,000 subscribers. The description on her page simply states, “I like eating pomegranates and brushing my teeth. But not at the same time of course.” Need we say more?
Tazzy has been harnessing her comedic power for good since her career took off in 2011, realizing that approaching serious topics with humor can actually make them more accessible. And she goes to great lengths to deliver a message, dressing up as characters and boldly going where others won’t.
“Sometimes people respond a lot better to comedy,” she says. “When you’re kind of lighthearted about things that are not really lighthearted in nature, I think comedy is a great way to get people to think and talk about things that they might not otherwise dig into.”
Tazzy, less popularly known as Tasneem, is actually quiet and serious in real life, although she admits that she has been producing funny videos on her parents’ camcorder long before her internet career took off.
Her popularity has showed her the true power of comedy. “I think that if you can successfully relate messages that are really deep, you have a lot of power,” she says. And if we have learned nothing else from Spiderman, we know that with great power, comes great responsibility.
Considering that responsibility, Tazzy has decided to team up with IRUSA for a series of videos for a good cause. “I really believe in what Islamic Relief is doing,” she says.
