Islamic Relief USA Sponsors Ramadan Iftar with NYC Mayor de BlasioIslamic Relief USA sponsored a Ramadan Iftar Dinner with the New York City Mayor’s Office of Special Projects and Community Events, honoring and celebrating New York City’s Muslim community and their partners.

IRUSA’s Chairman of the Board, Khaled Lamada, expressed his praise for the annual event and partnership saying, “I am very familiar with the Iftar and have been attending it for many years when Mayor Bloomberg was in office. It is growing and I believe under Mayor de Blasio’s leadership it will continue to be a significant event for the city’s fabric and integrity. IRUSA looks forward to working the Mayor’s Office in future relief and development efforts to help people in need in our beloved city.” IRUSA also congratulates and applauds the work of Sarah Sayeed, appointed last year as a Senior Advisor in the NYC Office of the Mayor, Community Affairs Unit, where she specializes in issues related to the city’s Muslim community.

Note to Editors:
Ramadan is the holiest month of the Islamic calendar (ninth month) . Each day during this month, Muslims around the world abstain from food and drink between sunrise and sunset. They are also encouraged to give generously and care for fellow human beings to leverage some of their suffering. Muslims are also keen to share food with Muslim and non-Muslim neighbors and friends. In many Muslim countries there is a tradition of organizing free food kitchens for poor people during Ramadan. In the West, many Muslims volunteer or donate to local charities or food banks.
