A tragic shooting took place at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School in Parkland, FL, on Wednesday, Feb. 14, 2018. Some 17 people were murdered and dozens more injured. The shooting has been deemed of of the most deadly in the nation’s modern history.
IRUSA team members mobilized quickly to Florida in order to provide support for those affected. During this sensitive time, IRUSA staff will focus on providing financial assistance to families with injured or deceased members, or who have been otherwise affected by the shooting. So far, 85 support cases have been processed by IRUSA’s team.
Examples of the financial need families may experience include funeral costs, lost income from caring for a wounded child, or replacement costs for essential personal belongings confiscated by the FBI in the course of the investigation. Financial assistance will be provided depending on the severity of need. IRUSA is working closely with Federal, State and NGO partners, as well as local Muslim community organizations, to support the families who have been affected and those coming to a Family Assistance Center.
