VOA News: ” Food Packages Help Families in Need During Ramadan “

For Muslims, the month of Ramadan (May 15-June 15) is a time of reaching out to people who are less fortunate. Islamic Relief USA is providing thousands of special Ramadan food packages to people in need in several cities in the United States. The nonprofit in Alexandria, VA, is contributing humanitarian aid to more than 40 countries around the world. VOA’s Deborah Block takes us to the Washington area where the Ramadan food packages are making the lives of some local families a little easier.

Last year, with help from Islamic Relief USA and the Regional Food Bank of Oklahoma, the pantry provided 17,000 people with food assistance.
Boneta said all of the social services at Mercy Mission enable people to interact with Muslims in a spirit of charity and compassion, and to overcome stereotypes and preconceptions.

TWELVE STUDENTS graduated from the Islamic Relief USA-supported Sewing Academy at Dar-Al Hijrah Islamic Center in Falls Church on Thursday, May 3. The graduates put in 100 hours of training and learned to use both consumer and commercial-grade sewing machines. As a symbol of the graduates’ accomplishments, the students wore dresses that they made themselves.

The Fairfax County Times: “Islamic Relief USA-supported Sewing Program to hold graduation ceremony at local mosque”

The Sewing Academy at Dar Al-Hijrah, , located at 3159 Row St., Falls Church, will hold a ceremony for this semester’s graduates on May 3, from 2 to 3:15pm in the courtyard of the mosque.
Islamic Relief USA supported this year’s program with a grant, as it has in prior years.

"The success of this extremely beneficial program would not have been possible without the contributions made by Islamic Relief USA," said Tahani Jabarin, director of the Social Services Department at Dar-al-Hijrah. "We appreciate IRUSA bringing the program to life and sponsoring the 8th semester of the program."
